About Steve

I started doing stand-up in Mexico City, in rooms where half the crowd is laughing in their second language. You find out fast which jokes actually work.

I grew up in Halifax, which is still home no matter where I end up on stage. What started as “I’ll just try an open mic” turned into an act I’ve since taken to stages in Mexico, Canada and the United States. On stage I tell stories: bad decisions, drugs, and the people who were there for both. The default set is for adults, but I can keep it chill when the room calls for it.

Off stage I make short films. Same voice, different format.

Right now I’m gigging around Mexico City. In 2027 I’m moving back to Halifax, and the material is coming with me.

In June 2026 I went home to Halifax and recorded my first half-hour special, Kind, Not Nice. It’s up there, the whole thing.

Steve Boutilier is a stand-up comedian from Halifax, Nova Scotia. Steve Boutilier is a stand-up comedian from Halifax, Nova Scotia. He started with a single open mic after moving to Mexico City and built his act in front of crowds where half the room is laughing in their second language, which is a fast way to find out what is actually funny. He has since performed in Mexico, Canada and the United States.

His sets are stories: bad decisions, drugs, and the people who were there for both. He works adult rooms by default and has a clean set for venues and events that need one. Off stage he writes and shoots short films in the same voice.

In June 2026 he returned to Halifax to record his first half-hour special, Kind, Not Nice, now streaming free on YouTube.

Steve is currently performing around Mexico City and moves back to Halifax in 2027.
